Bereavement Ministry

At Sacred Heart of Jesus, our Bereavement Ministry is a channel of our core value of radical hospitality, offering comfort and support to grieving families during their time of loss. 

Our parish urgently needs volunteers to continue the beautiful work of this ministry, without which, we face the possibility of discontinuing. Your participation will ensure that our Bereavement Ministry continues to be a source of comfort and support for those in need. 

Please consider serving bereaved families in our parish by volunteering your help with the following responsibilities:

• Team Captain 
  • Organized Volunteers are needed to help coordinate all volunteer responsibilities for each funeral
• Food Donations for Funeral Reception:
  • We are seeking food donations for funeral receptions. Side dishes are preferred and can be either homemade or store-bought. All donations should be delivered to the Parish Life Center before the reception.
• Food Pickup Before the Reception:
  • Volunteers are needed to pick up trays of food. Usually from Tons Drive In, located across the street, and deliver them to the Parish Life Center before the reception.
• Parish Life Center Setup
  • Volunteers are needed to prepare the reception area (PLC) by arranging tablecloths and flowers, setting up coffee, and organizing donated food and paper goods.
• Serving During the Reception:
  • Volunteers are needed to assist the family by serving plates, consolidating and replenishing food as necessary, maintaining paper goods, and providing a welcoming presence during the gathering.
• Post-Reception Cleanup:
  • Volunteers are needed to pack leftover food for the family, wash any used utensils or dishes, store remaining coffee and paper goods, dispose of trash, and put away flowers.

You can sign up for as many or as few of these responsibilities as you would like. 

Funeral receptions are only held Monday - Thursday, and last no later than 4pm. Time spent volunteering depends on your role(s).
